What Are Boom Type Bap Beats?

When you hear boom bap beats you hear the grimy hardcore hip hop that was famous in the late 90’s to early 2000’s.

Music producers like Dj Premier, Large Professor and Marly Marl are some of the well known pioneers that were a huge part of the early 90’s New York type of hip hop sound.

These types of beats are simple, dirty and to the core. Sampling was a huge part in the creation of many classic beats.

Boom bap beats typically use sampling from classic funk music, Jazz, rhythm and blues and also soul music.

Beats like Mobb Deep’s legendary song “Shook Ones” is a perfect example of a classic track created with repetitive drums and a sample that was flipped by Legendary music producer Havoc of Mobb Deep.

J Cole is another rapper that uses those type beats.

The Shook Ones beat is known to many as the greatest hip hop beat of all time. We here at In House Producer are producers that came from that era.

Yes, we have adjusted to the new school type of music, but that doesn’t mean we can’t dust off those classic records and create a gritty sounding hip hop beat straight from the slums.
